Minigolf (adventure golf)

Minigolf, which also goes by the names of miniature golf, crazy golf and adventure golf, is based on the popular pastime of standard golf. Golf involves a variety of golf clubs and players hitting the balls over hundreds of yards, whereas minigolf only users a putter club.

In minigolf players have to get a golf ball into the hole in the least number of hits. In contrast to normal golf, crazy golf often has themed obstacles and contraptions that are built to thwart the players attempts to proceed in the course.

Minigolf is traditionally a less serious sport than standard golf and although most minigolf courses are based outside, there are also a number of indoor minigolf course too.

Jenga

Jenga is a tower blocks game that involves players trying to remove rectangular cuboid blocks, usually made of wood, from a pre-built tower of said blocks.

The word ‘Jenga’ itself is derived from ‘kujenga’, which is a Swahili term meaning ‘to build’.

The objective of the game requires any players involved (there’s technically no limit on the maximum number of players) to remove a block on their turn without causing the main structure to collapse.

Jenga is a game that needs good judgement, a lot of patience and an extremely steady hand. Once quite a few blocks have been removed the game can become quite intense.

Table Skittles

We’ve all probabyl heard of skittles, no not the multi-coloured sweets, I mean the bowling-like game where you have a number of skittles set up and you have to roll a ball to knock as many down as possible.

It is usually played with 9 wooden skittles, hence its other name ‘Nine Pins’. The ball was traditionally also made from wood. However, this is about table skittles, a game I know which can sometimes be found in traditional pubs around England.

In table skittles (also known as Devil Amongst the Tailors or bar skittles), the ball is attached to a rod that stands beside a set of 9 miniature skittles or pins. The player must swing the ball around the pole and, like in standard skittles, knock as many pins over as they can.

Table Football

Another table based game which is very popular with men and boys especially although it is very enjoyable by anybody really!

It’s great fun and easy to play which is probably what makes it so appealing to so many people around the world, also its football which is the most popular sport in the world so it’s easy to see why everyone loves it.

The rules are simple, the first to 10 wins the game. There are certain rules that need to be kept to such as not spinning the players to give yourself an unfair advantage. That is pretty much the only rule that you need to play, so go ahead give it a try.

Racket Ball

Racket ball is a obviously a racket based sport that is played with a tennis shaped string racket with a squash style ball only larger and not as firm. The game is more or less the same as squash only it is played with a larger racket and ball so to speed the game up.

It is hugely popular amongst all age groups and is usually found in most leisure centre/sport clubs, it is a cheap game to take up as you only need a racket and a ball, and the ball is very soft so the your tacket should last a long time as a result.
Why not give it a go down at your local Leisure Centre!

Laser Quest

This is a really fun sport that is loved my both men and women of all ages, especially kids and big kids!

The aim of the game for those of you who don’t know is to shoot people as much as you can to get the highest number of points. The game is based around Infra Red guns that fire lasers at people which then hits that persons pack and vibrates to let them know they’ve been hit, great fun!

This can be played in many different styles such as team or every man for himself, every man for himself is more fun as you can see who is the best amongst everyone, rather than just 1 team against the other.

Air Hockey

Air Hockey is a hugely popular sport in many areas of the world and is easy to participate in no matter what your age, young or old.

The game is often found in bowling alleys and arcades and is played on a table that has 2 nets and has the areas of a hockey pitch marked on the table; the difference is that as suggests the sports name the table has air involved! There are lots of small holes on the table which shoot air up which in turn keep the plastic puck on the table and make it easier to hit around the table.

It’s great fun so give it a go!

Danish Longball

This is a relatively unknown sport although I played it in P.E. at school and it was great fun! It’s a variant of cricket really, but the difference is that you have a ridiculous amount of people on each side and you are allowed to throw the ball at someone to get them out, brilliant!

It is very popular in British secondary schools and it always gets people working together and having a good laugh.
The aim of the game is as in cricket get more runs than the other team.

The difference is that you only get 1 run when you run between the wickets and then you join the batting queue again. Try its brilliant!

Darts

Darts is a fantastic indoor game which is played by millions of people all around the country; It has become hugely popular once again since Sky Sport’s began to cover it. The famous song played over the PA system to the fans at Sky events is legendary, it gets everyone going and the atmosphere is fantastic.

If you wish to participate yourself then it is very easy to get yourself involved, all you need is a dartboard and 3 darts and you’re away! There are various different formats of the game, the first to 501 being the most commonly played in the professional ranks although there are others such as “round the board” which are popular amongst amateurs.

So why not get yourself involved at your local pub or sports club, you don’t even have to do that just go out and buy yourself one!

Indoor Bowls

Everyone’s experience of bowls probably consists of watching a lot of pensioners in flat caps bending over a pristine grass bowling green looking deadly serious about the ensuing battle with the opposing player. Well it doesn’t just end there; it has much more to it than that!

The variety of ages that compete in bowls is more than you would imagine, people as young as teenagers play bowls.

The game is also of course played indoors in the form of carpet bowls which is very popular in the winter months as well as all other parts of the year, so why not get yourself down to your local bowling club and have a go at the interesting and challenging game of bowls.
